Privacy statement
The municipality of Groningen makes extensive use of personal data to properly perform municipal tasks. The municipality is increasingly working digitally. This makes the municipality's services faster, simpler, and of higher quality. The municipality handles personal data carefully. The municipality considers it important to inform you about which personal data it collects, why it does so, and how it ensures, protects, and maintains privacy.
Legal basis and purpose for processing
The municipality ensures that personal data is
only collected and processed for a clearly defined purpose. The municipality may only process personal
data if the law permits it.
No more personal data than strictly necessary
The municipality only processes the personal data that is minimally
necessary for the predetermined purpose. Where possible, no personal data is processed. This way,
the infringement on the personal privacy of the involved resident is minimized as much as possible to
achieve the purpose for which the personal data is processed.
Retention period
The retention of personal data may be necessary to properly perform legal tasks or to comply with legal
obligations. Personal data is not kept longer than necessary. The municipality follows the various
laws that regulate this, such as the Archives Act. The data used for registering for the Citizens'
Assembly on Waste will be destroyed once the Citizens' Assembly has started.
Integrity and Confidentiality
The municipality handles personal data carefully and treats it confidentially. Personal data is
only processed by persons with a duty of confidentiality, and only those persons who need access to the
personal data to do their work have access. The personal data is only used for the purpose for which
it was collected. The municipality ensures appropriate security of the personal data. This security is
laid down in the information security policy.
Sharing with others
In the case of cooperation with external parties involving the processing of personal data,
the municipality makes agreements about the requirements for data exchange. These agreements comply
with the law and are monitored by the municipality.
For the execution of the Citizens' Assembly on Waste, data of selected participants is shared with the agencies Emma (www.emma.nl) and Moventem (www.moventem.nl). Data of some of the non-selected participants is shared with the University of Groningen for a scientific evaluation of the Citizens' Assembly.
Proportionality
The infringement on the interests of the involved citizens must be proportionate to the purpose
the municipality has.
Rights to access, correction, and deletion
As a data subject, you have the right to access your personal data, the
right to have it modified or deleted, and the right to request data to transfer it yourself
(data portability). You also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data and
can file a complaint with the Data Protection Authority.
Consent
Sometimes your consent is required to process your personal data. If
this is the case, the municipality will ask for your consent. You can always withdraw this consent.
The municipality will explain how you can do this.
